Pause Migration & Other Tasks
It would be nice to be able to pause the migration and then later restart it

Thanks for taking the time to post this idea. We looked at it with the team and for now have decided that it’s not something we will be working on short term.
We’ll keep looking at the requests and update if we anything changes

Hi , it would be great if we could pause a migration and resume it at a later stage. This is due to a job running into business hours which will now have to be cancled due to network constrains.

With the current context, the constraints of migrating out of business hours is very important in our organisation, and since the effective migration rates are highly unstable, we cannot properly anticipate when a job will be completed.
The possibility of properly pausing and resuming the ongoing jobs would help a lot.

I suggest you to add the feature Pause in order to stop a migration activity for, example, to have a meeting online without newtork issue... :)

There is a awful lot of good reasons in this thread alone. I ask you reevaluate the priority on this as it is something that would make your end users happy. Personally I don't care if you change the look and feel of the product every few months, or add some fluffy automatic export. I'd much rather use the tool to get my content from On-Prem to the cloud as effectively as I can. and getting throttled, or having to Reboot a server, or make a change in my source or destination but needing to stop a entire migration to do this is a HUGE waste of my time. if time was a unlimited thing we had available to us, your company would be of no use as there would be no pressure to Migrate quickly to the cloud.

Pause Button would be great.
I am presently throttled ( yay ) so my migration of 28000 items and their versions to 0365 has taken 40 hours and 50 minutes and counting... I don't want to stop the migration and wait 24 hours and then do an incremential as I have seen some issues with your product and changing Metadata data when you do an incremental over a copy and replace. ( I believe you are aware and have corrected the issue with a patch, I am up to date but you know how it is... take away 40 hours of my work week, then not do your job properly and I am less inclined to trust you fully again... )
Anyway a Pause would be nice so I can pause my migration where it is and resume it when I am not throttled any longer.
K thanks.

Not sure if even possible but it would be nice to pause a task. Sometimes running multiple tasks takes a lot on the system and if we could pause a task instead of cancel we won't have to go back and make all the selections again.

I have a SharePoint site collection of size 25GB to be migrated from SP2010 to SP2016. I understand Sharegate migration cannot be paused/resumed.
Migrating 25GB of data will prolong for a week. My desktop is active only during office hours from 9-6 PM.
For example : If i start migration today for 25GB of data and successfully migrate on day 1. May i know how will i continue the migration from where I left on day 2 , as there is no pause/resume.

hello
how about allowing pause of the migration?
sometimes, in the middle, i discover a change i should perform for the better success.
currently i need either to cancel and start over from the beginning or wait until the end and start again.thank you

I came accross the need to pause an import job it was long running due to the volume of information being migrated and it would be helpful to be able to ask a job to pause and then later resume.

There are times when a migration process will need to take a long time (24+ hours). Being able to pause the migration so other processes can happen would prevent errors and lost data. Being able to schedule the pause would be even better.

We do appreciate if this capability is available in ShareGate as other migration tolls have it. We had once started the migration which run for 5 hrs and our workstations had to be restarted due to enforced OS-Patch and policy updates and we had none option left other than wasting 5 more hrs to rerun !!!

It would be nice to have an option to pause a migration, instead of just a straight up cancel. When you are working with a large amout of documents, the cancel isn't effective.

Pausing a migration would work perfectly in conjunction with my suggested server-side migration agent / orchestrator above (assuming it's approved). ;)

Would be ideal to have an option for pausing an operation (i.e. report/migration/etc...) instead of cancelling it. It is nice that history is saved and when a connection issue comes up, the report will restart typically. However, I have experienced very large reports or inventory pulls and a need to pause/restart when time is available.

It will help if excel is atleast saved while doing export to excel in case we have to cancel export in between. We have faced multiple scenarios where export to excel was run continuously for 2-3 days but has to be cancelled later on. In such cases, the excel shows error on opening and all efforts are wasted. Excel should show data till the point export was running.
