Microsoft Project Online Backup
It would be great to be able to backup Project .MPP files, the project database, connected SharePoint sites and environment configurations. Especially because POL is essentially an extension of SharePoint.
Currently, only FluentPro has a viable product that does this, and the cost effectiveness of their tool is typical of a monopoly.
Backing up MPP files from Project Online can be done with Project Professional using the Visual Basic editor.
Open a blank project, put the list of Project Names in the Task Title column (use the Project Center export to Excel to get this list, or Excel and connect to the OData feed, etc.)
Then open the Visual Basic editor using the Macro button:
Dim T As Task
Dim fName As String
For Each T In ActiveProject.Tasks
fName = T.Name
Application.FileOpenEx Name:="<>\" & fName, IgnoreReadOnlyRecommended:=True
Application.FileSaveAs Name:="C:\Exports\" & fName, FormatID:="MSProject.MPP"
Application.FileCloseEx pjDoNotSave, CheckIn:=True
You can then execute this file using the immediate window (ctrl-G) and type ExportProjects and hit enter.
