Compare Two Environments
Quickly compare source and destination content in order to see what needs to be incrementally migrated and to prove to customers that every item from the source made it to destination.
To be compared:
-items
-site settings
-site features
-lists and libraries

This is not currently in our plan to allow our users to compare two environments.
We might do it in the future, possibly starting with permission as it seems like it would be the most useful part on security level.

Given the recent issue with ShareGate migration where there may have been data loss, and the fact there is no way to know what was lost, I believe a tool to do this is critical. If I am trusting ShareGate enough to delete the source files post migration, then this would go a long way to providing confidence. The most important thing for me is comparing the content to make sure nothing is missing.

This would be a “Nice to have”. Better than having to extract the content of both environment to Excel and do a manual comparison.

If I can chime in on this, it's needed as a way to validate that all items from the source were succesfullly migrated to the destination.

Yesterday we migrated 127GB data, but the destination is showing only 98GB copied, but there were no errors in the migration reports. What could be the issue? Would it take some time/days to refresh the data stores and show the accurate size at destination end? It is confusing a lot.

Hi, I think it would be great to have reports for comparisson of source and target. For example I have my source and target site, I want to know what sites are not yet in the target.
Same with the list items or files, it's better to have missing items reports.

It's a pity that this feature still isn't available. It would certainly be very helpful!

I would still want this at some point as I've just tried to migrate over 700Gb of data and am still missing 16Gb of that data in the destination and am now looking to other means to run a report on a site that now can't be seen in the SGD due to being in the onedrive recycle bin and no PS commands exist!

Though we have Site, List Item reports available in report section, it would be great if we have any GUI interface in ShareGate to check side by side comparison of source and migrated site.
Like Folder Count Comparison, Subfolder Navigaton with Item Count comparison etc.

When in Copy structure mode it would be great to have a view to show only the differences between content in both windows. The reason is to see where the gaps are. Say I have 250 items in the source and 272 in the desintation, it would be great to see via a toggle switch where the eact differences are - so they can be adresssed. Something like a code merge tool view. Thanks SG Team!

Hi,
I just copied many files from a local share to a document library in SPO. The totals in the output report do not exactly match what's in the properties when I highlight the folders in FIle explorer.
Example: Your report shows 28,841 Reults, 28836 Sucess, and 5 warnings. I know what the warnings were, it couldn't overwrite 4 files + the 1 warning saying I have warnings. (all good they were moved manually previously) When I highlight the folders in File explorer, it shows 28,715 in 132 folders which equals 28847, 6 more than what was imported.
Do you have a report that will compare all files in the shareed drive to the files in SPO?
Thanks,
Joe

I would like to request a new Report feature.
I would a compare site report, with options to list missing items and missing features. -

A report that compares two sites to see what's different for incremental updates would ge good.

Hi,
I am not sure , if we have already a feature availale to compare the SharePoint sites post migration to confirm that everything is migrated properly. we have to check individual items to check ie. Content Type used in List, Site Columns and Templates etc. it would be nice to have feature to compare site post migration as it will reduce lot of time for testers as well and for person to find alternative of non-migrated data.
Thanks,
Kashyap

Since this was submitted around 2016, very concerning it's still not within plan pipeline (admin response 2019). In my org, this lacking functionality is a major concern and has created preference for competitors such as metalogix which provides comparison between source/destination

Our situation is that the migration to SharePoint has taken longer for the department to migrate than expected. We did an initial sync using SG desktop from a file share to SharePoint. We are now months from when that initial sync happened, so data on both sides has been manipulated by users, but there is no way for us to establish which files and where (file date is not a good indicator since files on both sides have been touched, by different users and at different times).
We are now in a place where we can't actually use SG Desktop to assist in our migration without knowing which files need to be copied/update to SharePoint, and we will be looking at other tools to accomplish this task.

For me personally, security would be the least helpful. I'd be more interested in comparing content. Then it would be good to run an incremental on those results because you already know what the differences are.

I personally think comparing content would be the most useful. Then being able to run a delta migration job against the result since you already have the differences.
