I can understand being cautious to migrate a private channel to a public channel, but we have a few cases where we have a few public channels, that we would like to migrate to private channels under existing Teams.

This is a requirement for my client. Sure we can move files between with no issue but they're asking for conversations to be moved as well.

Being able to copy one public channel to another public channel in the same team would be useful as well and sounds like it might be covered by similar functionality. E.g. users have been using 'General' for everything but now want to spool off into 3 separate public channels in the same team, but use General as a base. Unless I am missing something, you can copy channels to another team, but not the same one. Copying out and back in is messy, particularly regarding conversation posts.

We are getting many request to convert public channel to private channel, since Microsoft doesn't have any options to do this and the competition does it would be a great addition and selling point to keep our Sharegate licence once our migrations are completed.

This would be a great addition to the toolset, we get this request when migrating often from tenant to tenant and team consolidation.

when migrating teams my organisation would prefer every team to be a private team instead of public. so if there are any public teams on the source tenant we have to migrate them as public then change them to private manually after. it would be great if Sharegate gave you that option when migrating the Teams
